Calibre’s Whitewater Team sought to enhance recreation and restore natural habitats at LaVern M. Johnson Park.

Calibre’s Whitewater Team led the restoration of the Town of Lyons’ park following the devastating floods of September 2013. Spanning extensive recreational areas, this project revitalized vital amenities that are essential for community engagement and annual festivals. Our Whitewater Team expertly designed and engineered all river components and the park site plan, enhancing it with 96 parking spaces, 22 RV spots, and lush landscaping.

Unique engineering solutions included the implementation of a grouted rock ramp diversion structure and eight additional whitewater park structures, all designed to facilitate fish passage and restore aquatic habitats. The adjustable split flow channel, featuring a riffle pool sequence with large woody debris, significantly improved the ecological balance in the area. This project not only restored recreational opportunities for the community but also emphasized environmental sustainability, showcasing Calibre’s commitment to delivering sustainable solutions that add enduring value to the communities we serve.
