The Čunovo Water Sports Centre in Bratislava, Slovakia, originally built in 1996, hosted its first World Cup kayak event in 1997 and the most recent in 2013. Selected for the 2021 World Championships, the venue underwent major renovations led by Calibre’s Whitewater Team, who reconfigured the channel and integrated the RapidBlocs™ Obstacle system to enhance the racing experience. The outdated parallel courses were revamped, addressing unfavorable conditions in the left channel that hindered use for recreational paddlers.
The new design included customizable three-dimensional obstacles to create varying waves, holes, drops, and eddies suitable for all skill levels. The updated competition channel features a repositioned starting gate and improved layout for spectator engagement, revitalizing the venue for competitive events and recreational use alike.
